Its based on the decimal system so just add as many zeros as the spaces separating to conversion units and multiply or divide by that no. eg to find out how many centimeters in a Decameter I have to divide by 1000 and to find out how many meters in a kilometer I multiply by 1000. Its really simple. Just make a kind of numberline and each jump is one zero added to 1.
