  • Yes that can happen. When the brain ceases to function properly then the rest of the body suffers. If their eyes were open at that exact second, yes they remain open. Many times the hospital staff will close them, for the patient and the family's sake

  • Yes, definitely. There's no "default" with eyes being open or closed; either one requires muscle action to change to the other position, if that makes any sense. So unless a reflex caused the muscles to close the eyes, they'll stay open. A head injury could definitely interrupt that reflex.
  • yep, I've been unconscious with my eyes open: I bit my tongue and stopped breathing (on accident), even though it isn't exactly the same thing, it's similar.
  • Head injury or not an unconscious person can have their eyes open. Many people sleep with their eyes open, not to mention alot of dead people have their eyes open.
