The uncertainty principle is true for all wavefunctions. Odd that in order to derive it, you'd have to assume a particular wavefunction. I mean, you wouldn't. Rather than deriving it, you're really "verifiying" it here. I don't remember how to get p from the wavefunction. Kinetic energy is p squared over 2 m (that's the fancy version of 1/2 m v squared). hm ... Instead of deriving it, I wonder if you could use the uncertainty principle as an axiom. Could it help you do algebra?
