My guess is 320. 30 for each shift of 8 hours a day. The remaining 90 staff to replace those taking their weekly holiday on a rotation basis. This is only a guess based on the fact that the AB fully computerized and is active all the 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

I'm thinking a team of around ten for the actual running of the site. It only takes a second to handle a moderation request or challenge. Most of this site is on auto pilot and the glitches do not get resolved all that quickly. Perhaps a couple more for hardware maintenance and upgrades. Probably one overall manager/boss to handle scheduling and resource management. I'm sure the advertising is or handled by Demand Media. Remember this place is owned by someone else, they don't need to do everything.

Everyone on AB and at the "home office". AB is a self-moderating site. WE are responsible for reporting spammers, offensive members, nonsense questions and answers, duplicate questions, and questions put into the wrong category. Then staff moderators (paid and volunteers - I believe students) validate and accept or reject the flags. See http://www.answerbag.com/about/ for those who are paid (and I know that Joel had, and Rich has a full-time job, so AB is a part-time work of love for them. The others (except MAYBE the moderators) on the about page, I'm sure, are paid part-time staffers, who may or may not have other full-time jobs. The moderators, which may the the "regulars" may be enhanced with other volunteers, at times. See the first section of http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2m_faq_ab_moderationguide.shtml for more.
