Our landlord tried to cash a check he wasnt supposed to and it bounced, now he is fining us.we had givin him a money order b/c he didnt want the check, even tho we gave it to him already. and we dont have the receipt for the money order. what can we do?

this goes along with the question, i didnt have enough room to write it all... what happened was the landlord kept turning in the checks several weeks after they were written. then a check bounced. after my boyfriend had already written a check for the next month and given it to the landlord, the landlord said that he didnt want checks anymore, and he wanted a money order. so my boyfriend got a money order and gave it to him, thinkin that the check would be cancelled. the landlord tried to cash it anyway and it bounced (b/c of the money order) and now he is fining my boyfriend for it. we lost the receipt for the money order so we dont have proof of the money order. what can we do so this guy doesnt screw us out of more money. he is fining my bf almost 600 dollars.
