If you take the little branches (like, a little smaller around than a pencil) from a cottonwood tree, and snap it in two, you'll see the inside is a perfect star. Also, salt crystals would work, or any crystals for that matter, geodes, etc.

First one that came to mind are the stalagmites and stalactites found in caves. Maybe also some mesas and buttes found in desert areas.
