are you asking what they like to be called? well indians are from india. so i was told that people who are originally from america are called native americans. that is supposed to be the "proper" term.

I like Indian. People say that they are called Indians because Columbus thought he had reached India, but there was no India at that time, only Hindustan. The whole Indian thing comes from Columbus' poor Spanish. He said "In dius" for "People of God." Sounds like a perfectly honorable title to me. By the way, I base this on absolutely nothing.

Native American. Then they are not confused with India's people.

A few of my Indian friends and I have discussed this before and they don't seem to care too much either way. I usually just say American Indian, if a situation arises where I need to refer to them by race.
