  • Just as in any place or country elsewhere it depends on many things, like the economy, industrial base, cultural and .ethnic factors, climate (e.g. public nudism is not a problem in Arctic communities). Where I live, a city of one million or so, there were about 40 murders last year, an all time high. The greatest grouping of these were gang related. These groups are growing in this area and battling for turf because of high drug demand due to a strong 2006-08 oil economy. We can hardly blame the PD for this. The RCMP are a national force with high standards. They are contracted government to government to police some provinces and municipalities. Despite great training and a strong tradition, even they have problems as was internationally reported when 5 of them tazered a guy at the Vancouver Airports immigration desk. Overall corruption is not an issue here, but almost all of the rest of the problems seen elsewhere will surface here.
