Hey I'm studying the Vietnam War and the anti war movement in the US. Did you go on any of the anti-war movement's protests in the US during the Vietnam war by any chance? What was the atmosphere like? I will be thankful for any information. Thanks

1Simmy: It wasn't just "hippies" who protested the VN war - there were a lot of activists who hadn't dropped out of society but were trying to work within it to change it. There was a lot of tension between Natl Guard and students on campuses across the country, notably at Kent State (4 deaths). The Univ of Wisconsin (Madison) and UC Berkeley were hotbeds of activity that sometimes erupted into violence. I seem to remember Columbia Univ being a hotbed as well.

I know it wasn't just hippies there were also celebrities like Mohammad ali. Thank you I didn't know about UC Berkely and Columbia unis, thank you. Do you think domestic opinion had any effect on the US withdrawing from the Vietnam war?
by 1Simmy on January 16th, 2007
yes I do - but when the labor unions started grumbling about the war was when Washington began to take it more seriously.
