  • Black, toed, laced shoes, obviously
  • Well if you are male then BLACK, if you are female, depends on what colour handbag - they should match.
  • definately black
  • black would be choice.
  • Black, obviously. Brown shoes are an affront to the eye, but they especially wouldn't go with navy.
  • If you are Male...Black...period. (Be sure your belt matches...and it should ideally be a solid leather belt NOT woven..which is for casual wear. If you are Female...Navy, Black, and depending upon what color blouse, shell, or light sweater you might even get by with a very dark Gray, or Charcoal. Your purse really should match the shoes, as would any belt you might wear.
  • definatley black. I agree
  • Black brown definatly dosn't go with navy but thats a good question
  • There are so many stylish shoes out, so I would say wear the same color shoes as the suit. DON'T BE SCARED OF COLOR! The other alternative would definitely be black.
  • Black goes with navy blue thebest because I wear navy blue pants 5 days a week to school.
  • Black definately , You must never wear brown shoes with navy blue
  • i hate to go against the general consensus but in prim and proper little southern belle upbringing i was taught that navy is one of the few colors black does not go with. not that i grew up to be that little belle but i'd still go with the brown.
  • BLACK! Brown would not go well and make you look really frumpy.
  • For one thing I've heard that your belt should match your shoes (for a pants suit), but I know this "rule" has changed over recent years. I like brown shoes with a navy or brown suit, and black with a black suit. I think more importantly make sure your socks match your shoes!! I used to rag on my husband for that one and now he finally listens and realize it looks better.
  • You guys obviously know nothing about men's fasion. Not that black shoes would look bad, but brown is a lot more stylish. Believe, many people agree. http://men.style.com/gq/fashion/styleguy/suitsandblazers/597
  • I would think the color of the shoes would depend on the color of the pants. Assuming that your pants are navy like your jacket then black, but if you had say a khaki color pants brown, or more specifically, chocolate colored shoe would def. look nice.
  • Just came across this and had to answer. I wear very dark brown shoes with my navy suits (with a dark brown leather belt and socks a shade or two darker than the suit) and would never consider wearing black shoes with it. I'm not sure when things changed, but when I was growing up and then in college, it was not okay to wear black with blue. I still don't think it's preferred by most fashion gurus / critics, however, it's definitely made progress to becoming more acceptable over the last ten years.
  • BLACK! if you can't decide maybe try bot as a Zebra black brown black brown, or use one black and one brown.
  • Brown. Brown belt, shoes, and handbag (ahh daytimer)
  • Traditionally brown. If it is a dark navy suit I would agree. My personal preference is for a brighter navy I would wear black.
  • Black shoes should be worn. If you can get two toned navy/blue shoes, those would look great. I have a t-strap pair in black and white. They're gorgeous and I get tons of compliments (I assume I'm talking to a woman...if not, avoid the T-Straps. )
  • For Men: Reading the "Ask Andy About Clothes" forum shows several opinions on this question. To the best of my understanding, both black and brown shoes can be used with navy. Black is the absence of color, so it's neutral, and able to go with anything. Black shoes are a safe choice with navy suits, so you can't go wrong with this option. To make the best of the navy and black pairing, you might polish the black shoes to a bright shine to give desired contrast between shoes and suit, since having navy and black look too similar in color can create dissonance. Brown shoes are warmer, and the pairing of navy and brown can bring out the best in both colors, though finding the right shade of brown can be a challenge, with darker browns and burgundy colors being easier to match with dark suits. Laces are required regardless of color. I haven't a clue about women's fashion, unfortunately.
  • There's no right or wrong, it's whatever you like best. So called "gurus" make stupid statements like that so they can have a job and feel important... who cares what they think. In my opinion, it depends on the shirt and tie... Cooler colors (like light blue)which are more often worn with navy blue suits I think look better with black. Where as a warmer color tie (like gold) looks good with brown. The best, however, in my opinion is dark burgundy shoes/belt with any red-burgundy colored tie. It brings out the blue of the suit, looks super classy, and is definately style without being flamboyant. Compliments will come with this combo...
  • Black totally black
