I think that the US government had many reasons for entering Iraq. The primary reason that trumped all was the need for a reliable supply of cheap crude oil. This is what differentiates the situation in Iraq from so many other situations in which we did not invade. However, other reasons do exist: Saddam's regime, the inability of the UN sanctions to resolve the situation, the belief that Saddam had WMD, etc.

I think that we entered Iraq because they were a genuine threat to the United States as well as other countries. They had hidden and helped Al Quida sects develop an army and weapons. Not to mention that Saddam was killing anyone who didn't go along with the way that he wanted Iraq to run. Saddam was a terrorist,...he's not around anymore, and I think the only reason we're still the is to help the develop their country and help them set up a democratic government.
