  • I was 18...! Stayed in the job for just over 2 year before moving on to something totally different... Thanks for reminding me!
  • I was 22, stayed with the company for 7 years. Ended as a Field Service Engineer.
  • After I got a divorce, I got a job with a corporation and worked there for 19 years meanwhile raising 3 children. This was in the late '60's when most mom's were at home. I made as much as most men in the neighborhood. Wholesale grocery industry used to pay really well.
  • I never did, really. I worked a series of jobs, and one reason I was never unemployed, even during the previous recessions over my working career, is that I was always willing to start at low wages. I usually got a raise soon after I started. Most of my jobs were related to bookkeeping, but not all. The best job I ever had was tour escort for a travel company. The tips were double the salary.
  • I was 21 when I started working for Pacific Bell/AT&T. When I was hired I joined a good union (CWA) and a secure, well-managed company. After working there for 35 years I retired in July, 2003.

  • 18, Navy. You get low pay regardless when you go in unless you're an officer, but I'm up in a the ranks a little bit so I'm living comfortably.
  • It wasn't until I graduated from nursing school in 1984 that I landed my first professional position that paid well.
  • I wanted to answer your other question about working at the age of 13, but it was rejected as nonsense. Well.....in Alberta, you can legally work at the age of TWELVE!!! My 13 year old son is in the midst of getting his first job. There are some rules to follow because of being so young and being in school still, but you are still legally allowed to do more than just shovel snow or mow lawns here and starting wage is $8.40 an hour. Thats pretty damn good for a first job! :)
