Does anybody know how the phrase" Seeing pink Elephants" came to be associated with the DT's.Have people really reported seeing them related to Alcohol withdrawal/dependence?Just wondered!

It roughly refers to the hallucinations that detoxing alcoholics have. It's a common symptom of Alcohol withdrawal and "pink elephant" is basically the hallucination's mascot. Why? I don't know. Maybe Disney's Dumbo could give you a few answers.
