I have a HP Omnibook 6100, I can charge it for hours and it will still go off if the cored is unplugged. But you can check the battery and on the checker on the battery and it will say half power or more. Do I need a new battery? I wanted to check first.

That's almost a universal complaint of notebooks, especially when they're more than a year old. Very few people feel they can count on their notebooks running solely on battery power for more than an hour. You could get a new battery but you'll probably have the same problem soon, an alternative is having a second battery that you plug into the recharge plug. Someone with basic knowledge of electricity can make one with $5 of parts from Radio Shack and rechargeable AA's, while the replacement battery is more like $120
