The medical debt I can understand. I don't get how you can work just 16 hours per week with that kind of debt hanging over your head. To get an accurate answer it would help to know what the $11,000 judgment is for (because you might NOT be able to file bankruptcy for it), and same goes for the $3,000, and do define "other bills".

I wouldn't go with a debt settlement company...Never. They are ripping you off and you'll never get rid of them. See a lawyer, those saying "try this place" are nothing more then spammers.. See a lawyer they CAn help and they'll look your situation over for FREE...

Everyones situation is different. You need to contact a bankruptcy attorney and let him make this decision for you. Most people file a Chapter 13, which will let you keep your assets and establish a payback to your creditors through the bankruptcy court. Be prepared to have your income tax refund attached to the court.
