  • Obviously we've observed only a tiny fraction of the light. But your answer seems to suggest that there's a direct relationship between the percentage of light observed and the depth of understanding yielded -- that's a false correlation. Understanding can be achieved with very small samples, as long as observations yield a sound theoretical understanding. Those theories can then be checked with more samples, and as time goes by and the observations re-validate the theory, confidence increases. It is not necessary to make every observation conceivable, because of the commonality of behavior imposed by natural laws -- one beam of light acts a lot like other beams of light! :)
