As far as the dashlights and horn, usually that means a dead battery, or a bad alternator that failed to charge and then killed your battery. The gear problem, if an automatic controlled by the on board computer, could be related. You need to get the car to a place where a diagnostic can be performed. Some auto parts sales places can do it in the parking lot for free, so call around first before sending the car somewhere, and get estimates from mechanics if no auto sales place can do it. (Some can at least test the battery and altornator if someone in the family can put the altornator and/or new battery in.)
