A huge ammount. HUGE. I can't express it enough!

A lot. Family environment and childhood experiences can impact your personality as you grow older, through adolescence and young adulthood. The majority of people who suffer from personality disorders (Borderline, Dependent, etc) have generally been affected by a parent or other close family member's relationship. Personality disorders are strictly environmental - not chemical. So they are attributed to upbringing and interpersonal relationships.

I would say a lot, for years before the child is school going and interacts with others outside of the family. Then friends/teachers also influence how the child grows up. Most of his language skills and initial social skills are influenced by family.

Loads!! It's their primary socialization., it makes you who you are. They learn the norms and values of their culture and society from them.
-
we learn through behaviour whether good or bad, the family influence is very strong

HUGE....No matter how large or small the family is, each and every person if effected greatly by the influence of the family. From the time you are a baby, you learn the nurturing aspect of a mother and a father. When you are a toddler, you interact and you soak up every little thing that you see from your family around you (good AND bad, unfortunately.) You learn to share, you learn to negotiate, you learn to understand, love, and protect. Families are the groundwork of society. Everything a child learns is developed within the first several years of life (i.e. walking, speaking, kinesthetic learning...the list goes on.) If there was not family to set that groundwork, no family to show the child how to learn and function in society? Unfortuneatly the child is not only effected by the good things of a family, but also of the difficult, the anger, and sometimes the hurt of a family. All of this 'influences' a child. Kids soak up the darn-dest things, and half the time we don't think about that!

A lot! You are with your family more than anyone else from the time you are born until about your teenage years. We are social creatures and we learn the best through our experiences with other people. We learn our language from our families (be it English, Spanish, French, etc.), we learn behaviors, words (good or bad), habits, and even the type of food we eat is influenced by our family.
-
Quite alot, but a child will always be who they are, no matter how much of a corrupting influence the family presents.
-
I think it's crucial. How we function as a family unit helps children develope into who they are. In a lot of cases, we become a product of our environment and our environment starts within the family unit.

It has been studied and proven that family influence (family being those who raise you) contributes most to who you become. That's NOT to say, however, that you will be just like your family. You accept and reject influences these influences. I 'accepted' the influence of my parents to always do my best and became something of a perfectionist, but I totally rejected my mother's poor housekeeping and now drive my family crazy with my constant cleaning--a losing battle!
