  • Etching (carving) and woodburning are often used to create graphics on wood. When I used to do custom woodwork professionally, I also used rubber stamps and india ink, and though you can not get fine lines with that technique, the ink will soak into the wood like a stain.

  • If you are new to woodcarving, use patterns you can buy or download them from the Internet Google it under "woodcarving patterns". Then transfer the drawing to the wood with transfer paper and then begin carving. The results are much better and perfect if you don't have experience. If the pattern size is smaller than what you need, photocopy it to the required size. Then place the transfer paper over the wood and over it the photocopy, then with a very pointy pencil type of tool go over the whole design and thus transfer the image to the wood.
