  • I don't think any woman feels comfortable being called that term, from my understanding. It's still meant negatively and therefore is still derogatory, I would think.
  • Where I live a dyke is a wall.
  • sometimes if you 'own' the word it can become a less derogatory and offensive term. Like in oz Italians and Greeks own the term 'wog' and its not really seen as derogatory or offensive anymore.
  • It really depends upon the context. I'm still too feminine to be "butch," but some might call me a dyke....other lesbians would. But, I do wear makeup and jewelry and carry a purse, so I really don't fit under one neat little label (but then, does anybody?) A lot of straight folks don't really understand the differences, and many use dyke in a derogatory manner.
  • my good friends husband is named Dyke....just like his dad!
  • It really depends on the context it's used in. I could tell a lesbian friend of mine "you're the most precious little dike I've ever seen" and she wouldn't mind. If I was to tell my neighbor that she was an annoying dike, that would be rude lol
