That the best art is art that is conveyed in the most elegant and simplest terms, without clutter and overstatement. Take for example acting. The best actors never "overact". The worst actors "learn" their art too well, and are too contrived on the screen.

That if you write, if you dance, if you paint, if you draw...etc, and do it well. There will ALWAYS be people out there who will tell you that you are wasting your talent or that you should be using your gifts for OTHER reasons. Go with your gut, when it comes to art. If people judge you on the content, then they're not looking at the quality. If they talk to you about the quality - then that's a different story. Just, keep doing what you're doing...
