They are attributed to Homer. (not Simpson, of course) ; ) Here's a description of both: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey See also: http://academic.reed.edu/humanities/110Tech/Iliad.html

The Iliad (Greek: Ἰλιάς [iliás] (Ancient), Ιλιάδα [ili'aða] (Modern)) is, together with the Odyssey, one of two ancient Greek epic poems traditionally attributed to Homer. However, the claim of a single author is disputed, as the poems show evidence of a long oral tradition and hence, possible multiple authors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliad

The Iliad is about the Trojan war, and the Odyssey is about the trip home afterwards. They were written by Homer, but in Ancient Greek, so the one you're likely to read today was written by a translator.
