  • All the cool kids are in the Air Force.
  • If you are referring to the AFQT score, 75 is OK since the maximum is 99. A 75 scales to a percentage grade of 75% (a C in school terms). You meet the minimum AFQT score for all 5 branches. The Coast Guard has the highest entry score requirement (40) while the Army and Marines have the lowest (31 and 32, respectively). Both the Army and Marines are ground combat branches. Marines are generally best on the assault and is better at amphibious operations than the Army. The Marine lifestyle and attitude is generally more aggressive than the Army. The Corps is much smaller than the Army, so promotion past E-4 is a bit harder. The smaller size also means more deployment time since there are fewer Marines to rotate through a given location. The Army has a wider range of career opportunities than the Corps since it is both bigger and does not rely on the Navy to provide some combat support services.
  • heres a link that could help you see what jobs are open, for Marines and Army ha i got a 76 on the ASVAB http://www.military.com/ASVAB/0,,ASVAB_MOS.html
  • I was a marine for 5 years. The marines have a higher standard overall. Every marine, regardless of the MOS is also trained on a basic level as a rifleman. The army does have high standards, but only in certain disciplines. The army does a pretty good job of training their combat troops, but seemed (to me) to do poorly with the non-combat troops. A few other contrasts. The army has more money, so they have better equipment. The marines make do with what little they have. The army promotes faster. Promotions mean more (in terms of authority) in the Marines. The army also typically gives out bonuses more generously. Both have a WIDE range of combat and non-combat jobs. The marine corps actually has more because they fly jets whereas the army's only combat aviation is helicopters. The only thing you can't do in the marines is any type of medical discipline, or be a chaplain. I was an Intel analyst. I would suggest if you only plan for 4-5 years that you pick something which can transfer into civilian life. Being a grunt is for some but unless you want to be a cop or private security you will have a HARD time.
  • You should join the ARMY. i am signin up in a week and a half and the benefits are amazing. and for your answer yes 75 is a very good score. its what i got. my recruiter always tells me that for the army anthing over 50 is golden. but the army is the way to go! no offense to any other branches. but when your done if you want to be a regular cavilian after thats completely possible. im not an expert on the other branches but you should check into the army. If you have any questions i'll do my best to have my or my recruiter answer them.
  • 75, yeh, that is a good score, really good. My son is training right now to get into the ARMY, he drives 45minutes one way to pt with his Sgt, my son has had some obstacles to overcome, he is, was overweight, now he is a lean mean fighting machine. Depends on how tough you are mentally, don't get me wrong the ARMY is great, but the Marines are pretty f*****g hardcore, and if you don't have the will, you wont make it. ARMY STRONG, MARINE TOUGH. Good luck and be safe. FYI...I wanted to be a MARINE...when I graduated.
  • Its not a bad score at all :), as 99 is a perfect score (I scored a 97 btw)
  • Your score isn't bad but what they are really looking at is the score on the GT section of the test. If you are looking at going medical go Army. You will have a ball at Ft. Sam Houston! The nice thing about medical is you can keep reclassing and go back to ft sam for additional training.
  • Consider the following. Air force. Unless you are an officer or a refueling boom operator or crew chief, you won't fly. That means you can be stuck on an air base in the middle of greenland, Dubai, or east timbuktu. But at least you have a bed and hot meals. Navy. Similar to the air force with regard to flying. You won't even get issued a back pack. You can get world class training and they do get to travel. Just remember that you will be spending at least half your time at sea. When you go to war, you bring all your stuff with you. No marching 20 miles to the fight. No sleeping in the rain or in foxholes. You will have a warm place to sleep and food to eat. And if you Really have a desire for combat, Navy Seal is among the best in the world. Army. Does the heavy lifting of combat. Does everything except fixed wing flight. I was always suspicious of the motto "An army of one." I would want a lot more guys on my side. Check out the America's Army free computer game for some insite as to what you might find in army life. Marines. The reputation speaks for itself. They are overworked, underpaid and asked to do a heck of a lot more than just their role as amphibious assault troops. Marines tend to get army left overs. What do you call a marine helecopter? A bunch of assorted parts surrounding an oil leak. Marines were still using m-60 tanks while the Army was goiong through it's second generation of M-1a1 tanks. But the dress blues of a marine always look good. Every marine is a rifleman first. So you will know that your fellow marine is sufficiently skilled to keep your but covered in an emergency. Also if you decide to transfer to a different branch of service, marine boot camp should mean that you dont have to go through boot a second time. Coast Guard. Think of the navy with the added responcibiity of rescuing civilians who should have known better than to get themselves into the trouble they are in. The phrase, you have to go out, but you don't have to come back, comes from the coasties. You are the police force of the oceans for the US. You are the ones the navy calls upon to board ships and perform searches. Coasties were the coxains on the landing craft that brought the marines to the beaches of the pacific during WWII. It used to be that the coastguard was part of the department of the treasury in peacetime, so some of the other services might not give you full credit for being an armed service at the bar. one other note. If you are looking for a career with US intelligence, Marines have a very good rep. But don't ask me how I know.
  • When I took the ASVAB all 5 branches called the same day. Has that happened with you? I cannot remember my score though, it was many years ago. They only told me I had an excellent score, especially in engineering.
