I'm so sorry. In a situation like this, I would get him an experience that he's always wanted --- parachuting lessons, flying lessons, a weekend somewhere fun that you can drive to, a race car driving experience, concert tickets...the GOOD seats...something that would mean something special to him.

My dad had throat cancer and laryngectomy ( in his late 50s) and lived for another 15 or 20 years. And they are so much more advanced these days. Are there any support groups in your area? You will both feel relieved if you meet other survivors. Get him something that says "long term". Umm, whats he interested in?
