This is nothing new. I have heard the creation of a new synthetic compound in 1954 by an American inventor. Tires made with this compound could give service for 200000 miles without showing any ware and tear for it. The formula for the compound was bought by tire companies even as the patent application was pending. The tires using the formula never got manufactured. Made bad business sense to tire companies that will loose the replacement market. I have nothing to substantiate this story but it sounds quite plausible to me.

I am. I am also tired to the development of known technologies in small steps on purpose in order to sell again and again. The IPod it a great example of this!!!! So are computers which get more powerful and better in stages. It's a surprise that all brands just plug along at the same rate of progress. You can't tell me that isn't collusion.

It makes me wonder why the big utility companies aren't throwing some cash behind the development of lithium battery technology for the auto industry. It could only help make more profits for them.

The world seems to revolve around money, we need to look at the big picture soon or else our planet will die prematurely, i guess the faceless corporations have to much power and more balance is required, government could put money into key developmental projects and people have to start making moral decisions.
