The Voyager and Pioneer space probes: "Voyager 1 is now the most distant man-made object in the universe, nearly 8 billion miles from Earth" http://www.ieee-virtual-museum.org/collection/event.php?taid=&id=3456996&lid=1 I think they are all now decommissioned. Regarding last communication: "Although NASA formally decommissioned the spacecraft in 1997, scientists sent greetings to Pioneer 10 on its 30th birthday, 2 March 2002. After a little more than 22 hours, the time it took for the signal to travel out and return at the speed of light, Pioneer 10 answered back." (ibid.)
