Help answer this question below.
I bought a digital camera once that required AA batteries, and I found that I had the same problem. It literally lasted about 1-2 minutes on video mode before the batteries died. I took the camera back.
My advice would be to buy a charger and rechargable batteries. You can pick them up (complete with batteries)for around £10.00 ($20). I don't don't know why they're discharging so quickly though. If it is faulty and still under warranty, you should be able to exchange it for another one.
If you have cheap batteries, expect this. Alkaline batteries are the minimum if you want longevity. Lithium are the best for such cameras. Rechargable Ni-MH are good, too, and probably the most economical over time. Buy several, keep extra fully charged ones in your camera case. Invest a few bucks on good batteries/charger, it's worth it.
digital cameras use a lot of energy, and it is strongly recommended that using rechargeable batteries instead of conventional alkaline battery.
If possible, you can buy some Lithium batteriery, it is powerful and rechargeable, you needn't to pay moeny on buying batteries.

I get twelve dollar lithium batteries. They last a really long time. Radio Shack wanted twenty five dollars for one. Really it should be twenty five for two batteries. your viewing screen takes up the most juice with double a batteries.

CANON NB-4L battery could compatible with many models of CANON series cameras, such as Canon PowerShot TX1 , NB-4L battery pack made from reliable and durable battery cells which could provide lasting and stable power, so CANON NB4L replacement battery is a reassuring and economical choice

it depends on the brand of the batteries and where you got them, happens to me in my 'toys'. (i.e. at the 99cents store, i get duracell AAA batteries and my toys die after using them for about 2 minutes, then thats when i play with them manually instead)
you can get lithium, they last a long time. the viewing screen on the back of a digital camera takes the most energy. the lithium costs about ten dollars. they last a very long time. thats what i use. i get a two pack, one for reserve. its worth it...twenty bucks. such a deal.
I have had the same problem. For me, it was probably because the camera was very very old, and was very inefficient at power consumption. For you, there may be a short circuit somewhere. Are the batteries very hot when you take them out dead?
