This is because the spring that retains the throttle wire to its position is out of torque or tension (depending on type of spring used). replace it. another reason is stuck cable, if the throttle cable and wire is too old replace it. there are no big reasons for this problem.

if the spring is TOO TIGHT then that might be the case (re: ^^^^^^) But the revs INCREASE sooo it could be the transmission slipping. check the trans fluid, if it isn't that then i don't know. But 9 times out of ten its the transmission. Fords are notorious for having faulty transmissions. all three of my dad's Fords are K.O.'ed because of the trans.
