When people refer to the "tri-state" area, which three states are they referring to?

I'm not sure, but it might depend upon where you live. Where I live, when we refer to 'the tri-state area' we're talking about ME, NH and VT. Then again LA to us is Lewiston/Auburn. We've also got some countries in state also: China, Mexico and Norway to name just a few. It's like we've got our own little world up here. :)

Depends where you live as there are quite a few tri-states in the USA. For me it's NY, PA, NJ. But I know of several others.

It depends on where you are. There are 62 tri state areas in the United States.

Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. At least it has always been that way for me since I have lived in two of these states.

Around here, it's MA, CT and RI.
