Why do we strive to gain points and rank at answerbag with no tangible rewards offered for achievement?

I, personally, strive to gain "fun" in debating over random topics. This is because my philosophy in life is to have fun. Everything I do is for fun, or for giving other people fun. Why work hard at school? So you can get a good job, get rich, retire early, and enjoy your life. Therefore, "fun" is my reward. Secondly, why must rewards be tangible? Isn't the feeling that you've brightened someone's day enough? (okay, it sometimes isn't for me lol) The points are a good way to make sure that people don't spam the place, as that would take away from our fun.

Because we enjoy the rewards of helping others through their times of needing help from others in order that they may pass through a period in their lives when they need help even taking advice froma stranger answering their question such as "Am I pregnant!" of which I answer how the hell would I know.
