Well, assuming that you wouldn't paint your living room pea-soup green, burnt orange, brick red, or magenta... I'd say the worst of the more reasonable colors would be mint green, plain brown, or pink. I think living rooms should be warm and comfortable, so go with warm and soft colors. Unless you want some flair, in which case you can paint one wall a different color than the rest, just to add some contrast. It depends on your taste really, of course.
