Take it to your local fire dept., police dept, or health dept. and let them do it. Usually they have at least one person who has taken training in properly fitting seats. They will show you how to get it tight and at the proper angle. When I had them fit mine, they said that something like eighty or ninety percent of seats are not properly fitted. And they showed me what happens in an accident if it isn't in there right. If you swing the seat back and forth about three times, it is out of there and swinging on the very end of the belt. It is probably more dangerous for you and the baby that way than if they weren't in it at all. So let them fit it the first time, and let them show you how to do it right. It has to be so tight you can't wiggle it, and for that, you have to kneel in it to compress the seat padding as tightly as it can be compressed and then pull the belt down tightly.
