  • Do they? Maybe they have had so little chance to wear bright and sensual looking clothing for such a long time . Now that it is possible for them to acqure sexy stuff they go a bit over the top. Secondly a lot of them are being brought out of their countries with promises of a better life put into prostitution and practically enslaved . So maybe that is work clothes. I know in most Top class Eastern European Hotels it is a normal thing for there to be large numbers of prostitutes take over the lounges waiting for trade in the evenings. It is accepted as quite normal and many of them are very beautiful. Maybe these women are from the first part and just like bright clothes i do not wish to intimate all Eastern European women are prostitutes but the attitude to it does seem to be much more relaxed in the Ex Eastern Bloc . It does not seem to be a career that is looked down apon
  • Do they really? I didn't think they dressed up as a type of dessert, but hey I must pay far more attention next time, clearly
  • I never noticed much, and my "Eastern European Fashion" magazine subscription just expired a few months ago.
  • I am an Eastern European woman who lives in the US and have travelled to Eastern Europe many many times. The women, for the most part, do NOT dress like tarts. How do you think American women dress? Most dress normally and some dress like tarts. Same thing for Eastern European women.
  • Why would you say that? Is this something you have experience of or any supporting evidence? I have not come across this particular stereotype before, does it exist?
  • Cause they 're used to jumping out of a cake?
  • This is a horribly misogynistic, ethnocentric question. I have flagged it as offensive and hope it is removed.
  • Do they? I used to work with a lot of Eastern European women, and only 1 dressed like a tart. I can assure you that it had nothing to do with the fact that she was from Eastern Europe.
  • Although the questioner could have been more elegant in their word usage, I think this is a valid question if you care to think a little about the questioner's quest for knowledge. But I think it is being perceived by less balanced and P.C. orientated people as a shallow stereotypical observation and a blatant sexist attack on women. As anyone who has actually lived in either/both western and eastern Europe for a reasonable length of time (6 months+) will positively attest, the questioner's observation is largely true on the surface. The underlying reasons, however, are multi-faceted and understandable when you consider recent European history, particularly the educational, political & religious history of eastern European countries as well as the impact of selective western cultural signifiers that have been imported into these countries, mainly via the media. The combination of factors such as economic deprivation, social stigmas, societal and religious pressure, the inhibition of social progress that has taken place elsewhere in the west for women and a lack of strong independent female role models, have resulted in many eastern European women lacking a sufficient level of understanding, education and subtlety in a number of areas and the way they choose to dress is but one visible manifestation of this lack of understanding. The influence of western media and general western imagery, focused on a narrow and selective way, both pre and post-1990 has contributed in no small part to the poor understanding of the intricacies of western society. I have no doubt that a similar picture exists in the other direction.
  • As any observer will witness in an large British city or town on a Friday or Saturday night, eastern European girls and women are by no means the worst in this respect. The sights that have greeted my eyes whilst passing through nightlife areas have to be seen to be believed and for anyone who has yet to witness the peculiar phenomenan of the young british woman going out drinking, it is an event repeated every week, come what may, throughout most cities of the Great British Isles. Any idea that women are "higher" or of a more mature disposition than men will be instantly shattered upon seeing the drunken depravity and shameless display of every female body part that exists, to mention the least of what I have seen. Sadly, there are very serious and sometimes fatal conseqeunces to these antics amongst British young women which I must not fail to mention in this message, lest anyone feels that this post is a stab at women generally, which it is not. I shake my head at the behaviour, but I worry about the person behind the behaviour far more.
