  • Depends on the couple and how devoted they were for each other and not one another's values in regards to politics.
  • When my parents got married my mom was a democrat and my dad was a republican. Marriage is not based on who you want to see in office its based off your guys' love and friendship together. And by the way my parents have been married 25 years and are still happily together and jus fine with who they would like to see in office even thought their opinions but heads offten durin election season.
  • Ask the Terminator and Maria Shriver. They seem happy. Picture Arnold at a Kennedy family Picnic. lol
  • Not true. Look at Mary Matalin and James Carville. They've been successfully married for an eternity now
  • Has anyone watched Mr. and Mrs Smith?
  • Very good chance. Here's proof: My parents. The marriage lasted almost 61 years until my father passed away. He was the diehard Democrat and my mother was the staunch Republican. When I came of age to vote, they each would try to convince me to see it their party's way, as well as convincing my other siblings. Truly, they cancelled out each other's votes but together, they worked like a charm. As well, she was Management and he was Union (they met in the ammunition factory where they were both employed). Even with their differences, they were meant for each other all the way and truly the finest example I could have ever had for what life partners and parents should be. I will be forever grateful. Very good question!
  • Well, what about Carville and Matalin?
  • Happens all the time-moron.
  • they would become moderates and live happily ever after
  • I guess it would depend on how active they both were in their respective parties ... hopefully they would respect each other's beliefs. I'm sure this kind of marriage is actually pretty common.
  • Look at Arnold Shwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. They seem to be making a pretty good go of it. Ive heard Arnold say, when asked this same question, they are supportive of each others interests and endeavors without judgement or competition. I dont see why politics have to interfere with love, unless you happen to also love politics, and some people do. It think how well you handle your differences depends on how much respect you have for the other person, if you actually care how they feel and what they think etc., (and of course vice-versa.) There will be a lot of things, throughout a life spent together, which could draw a couple individually to different ends of the spectrum in opinion or perspective. Depending on the foundations your relationship was built on, your differences can either provide for many interesting debates, challenge each of you to grow beyond party lines and how you currently define yourselves, or they can be a constant source of contention or frustration, in which case, why bother?
  • Hard for this to happen. Like people relate to like people and with widely different political views, the relationship usually doesn't go far. Now, if it's sexual in nature, the conflict can be a trigger. LOL
  • Let's see..Mary Matalin (sp?) rabid Republican and James Carville, rabid Democrat have been married for years and have two kids I believe. I think political parties only matter in public..in private neither of you probably gives a rat's ass..you're much more interested in where the family is going on vacation or the next birthday party. A lot of it is for show..to impress others in your party. Most of it is probably like a hat..you put on and act in a particular way..you take it off and get back to the real you! :(
  • It has worked out okay for Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger. They have been married 22 years!
  • If two people are THAT serious, then they'll begin to realize that the two parties are nothing more than Socialist Party "A", and Socialist Party "B". Not worth ruining your marriage over it, since it's likely that you both take the issues more seriously than do the hacks who represent your party on C-SPAN. So what to do? Lovingly find a third party; at least their speachmakers actually care about the country and the issues. Rant concluded.
  • My bf is a republican and I'm a democrat, sure things do come up and we talk about our opinions, but of course, he likes to think he's right about everything lol So far, no major troubles, and it's just a political party, not something that runs your life.
  • Well, Matlin and what's his face are still together.
