  • No, income tax is not illegal. You pay it so that the government has a source of funding. Your roads, police, fireman, etc, etc all cost money.
  • Income tax is perfectly legal. The idea that its illegal is because it wasn't really constitutional until I belive the 16th amendment to the constitution. But its perfectly legal now and you must pay it or face jail.
  • Actually most of income tax does not go to our governemnt but to pay back the interest on the money that the gov't borrows from the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve is not a part of our gov't, it is a private bank. THe income tax is only legal if you sign your w-4 when you start a job. There is no law saying you need to sign it, and other than signing your w-4 which says you will voluntarily give them money, there is no law requiring you sign it or pay it,as long as you do not sign a w-4. And BTW the 16th amendment was never lagally ratified on top of the fact that the 16th amendment goes against everything else in the constitution regarding aportioned taxes and nonaportioned taxes.
  • Not exactly. We pay them to fund for wars and debts for wars borrowed from other banks and Fed Res.
  • Some modern tax skeptics claim this amendment was not properly ratified. Alas, so far, none of them have been able to convince a federal court of the validity of their claim. Worse, many of these people offer themselves up as "tax consultants" and bilk hard-working people out of "advisory fees" based on their delusional claims. They are about as legitimate as those fictitious e-mails from ousted Nigerian officials offering to pay you handsomely for helping them move millions of dollars out of their country. The IRS provides a nice summary on the history of the laws that gave rise to the U.S. income tax. You can also find more on the history of the U.S. income tax on the Web site at Colorado College. If you'd like to learn more about these novel interpretations of the U.S. tax law, there are lots of folks sitting in federal prisons who can fill you in on the details.
  • If it wasn't illegal Wesley Snipes would have never been brought up on charges. OCTOBER 17--Wesley Snipes has been indicted on federal criminal charges for his role in a bizarre tax avoidance scheme that allegedly included him seeking $12 million in fraudulent refunds and failing to file six years of tax returns. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1017061snipes1.html
  • O.K. Lets all not pay! You first:)=(
  • No, it isn't illegal. There are groups of people still trying to prove they are illegal but some of them are just scam artists, like the bunch that just went to jail. Recent court cases has shown that income tax still stands. Just ask Wesley Snipes. Read this: http://money.cnn.com/2008/04/25/smbusiness/snipes_jail_time.fsb/?postversion=2008042516
