Does anyone know how to make a no longer activated Dish Network 510 DVR record?... not using it as a receiver... more like a VCR.

Sadly, without the Dish Network service, it's a "boat anchor". The Dish Network 510 DVR cannot record anything but Dish Network satellite broadcasts. It doesn't have an over-the-air or cable analog (NTSC) nor digital (ATSC/QAM) tuner and compression hardware, so you wouldn't be record cable or over-the-air TV with it.
