  • Just because they need help doesn't mean you have to put their dignity into jeopardy. Let them walk slowly, offer to step out of the room and stand just outside the closed door if they are capable of sitting there without the potential for injury. Always close the door after you if you have to stand in there, bearing in mind your own safety. Make sure that they are wearing either non-skid footwear or shoes. Always ALWAYS use a gait belt if one is warranted. Use extra people if the person is larger or the same size as you.
  • Probably to remember to empathize with their situation. Sometimes elderly people will act out, just like children. It may not necessarily be because they hate you or anything. They may just be frustrated at their own situation.
  • Remember that dignity for that person is so very important. Make light of things whenever possible but never be disrespectful. Also keep in mind that the person is physically fragile and be ever patient
