I believe they have a few phrases set up in a database or array, and the number of the one used on a given page would be randomly generated.
As for "invalidation" of the copyright, I don't see why. The Copyright DOES say, "© 2003-2007 Answerbag" at all times. ;-)

You're reading What controls the adjective before "upstart" in the copyright statement at the bottom of the page, and does it invalidate the copyright claim?

I would agree with that analysis. Any would-be copiers cannot be in any reasonable doubt that copyright is claimed, and that it is claimed by Answerbag.
