Noon, 11.59 is AM, 12 noon and after is PM :-) 12 Midnight is 12 AM ( UK Answer ) :-)

- Thanks Rince! I was doing this translation and it said 12pm. It got me thinking ... it can have 2 meanings? Even Wikipedia said it was confusing. Because in the evening you have 10pm, 11pm and then suddenly it's not 12pm but 12am??

- Actually... there is some confusion here and there:
  
  The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language has a usage note on this topic: "Strictly speaking, 12 a.m. denotes midnight, and 12 p.m. denotes noon, but there is sufficient confusion over these uses to make it advisable to use 12 noon and 12 midnight where clarity is required."
  
  The use of "12:00 a.m." for midnight and "12:00 p.m." for noon, however, is contrary to the U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual which recommends the opposite: "12 p.m." for midnight and "12 a.m." (formerly "12 m.") for noon.

pm means after midday, am means before midday so 12 am and 12 pm both mean midnight. In USA they seem to think pm means "afternoon or evening", and am means "morning". Why everyone doesn't use the 24 hour system for clarity beats me.

12 PM is noon
12 AM is midnight

if you want to make sure ..
try to set your phone alarm once on 12 AM and check the time left till it ring
and then set it on 12 PM and check
it's so easy and reliable =3

You're counting 00.00.00 through to 12.00.00 (the highest number) for a.m. and then the same again for p.m. So how can 12.00.00pm possibly be midday? 11.59.59 should trip to 00.00.00 at midday for it to be p.m. at that point. Doesn't make sense for it to be 12.00.00, even if convention dictates otherwise. Yes, 24-hr clock works and avoids confusion. Just never arrange to meet someone at 12pm or you might never link up!

There is 12 noon and there is 12 midnight. AM means ante meridian (before noon) and PM mean post meridian (after noon)

That is too confusing! When I worked at a bus company, on the schedule board for drivers if any trip started at midnight or noon, it was posted as either 1201 AM or 1201 PM. It worked.
