Serial killers do what they do for many different reasons but usually in a combination of a few different factors, when combined, create the perfect atomsphere for harboring that kind of tendency in the psyche and then followed by circumstances that allow the indivisual to encourage the thoughts and processes that eventually lead up to the act and then the habitual need for it to keep happeining. For some it is a combination of sexual abuse and physical abuse in their own lives. For others it is a sadist nature combined with early life head injuries... It varies but it is almost always a few different tics or problems that when combined make a cocktail so to speak of perfect environment for them to fester and grow into a monster.

I am a cereal killer. At least that's what my kids tell me. This morning I killed a box of Fruit Loops, and they were mad, cause they wanted some. I would say, in my case, it's cause of hunger and a desire for that fruity taste.

Some reasons that a serial killer would kill could be the victims may be symbolic to him in some way, Sexual devience-the one who enjoys killing very sadistically, for the pure turn on, Mental instability-voices in their head etc

I think that most of them do it for the thrill of the kill. They get off on it and it satisfies a very deep-rooted psychopathic need

They have something against the world..

fulfilling a need inside that they think will make them complete if they do

i don't think serial killers ever really have a reason for killing. even though i know most serial killers that are men kill women that resemble their mothers because of how they were treated when they were younger. atleast that's what i've learned from CSI lol!

In some cases it's just to eliminate the witness.

Most of the serial killers I've ever read up on say that they do it "for fun."

serial killers are usually hunters, not really chosing people they know. each has their "target" type. I am a 34 yr old, white female, height weight propotionate with long hair. This alone makes me in the serial killer target group. (ladies, take note of these details)

Hmm, in some instances it is the need to hunt or the belief that a higher being wants you to kill for the greater good. In the instance of Anatoly Onoprienko he was a hunter that hunted just because he wanted to kill. Later he said that it was because he believed God told him to do it. He came from a family where he was unwanted and given up to a orphanage while his brother was kept. He was introduced to murder by a friend in his teens and the thirst to kill became larger and larger until he wanted to do nothing but that. He told the courts if they let him loose that he would most definitely kill again. In the case of Jeffrey Dahmer, he was fascinated with death, bones, etc, and wanted to dissect the bodies as well as his obsession with sexual pleasure and felt that he was consuming the souls of his victims and becoming one with them when he cannibalized. The case of Randy Kraft picked up teenage boys, and a few women at some points and killed them after getting them drunk and drugged. He was apparently very strict with himself, anal-retentive you could say. From what I remember, he did some ghastly things to the bodies of the boys. Too graphic for Answerbag. He was also known to keep a cryptic "death list" which he of course denied. In his case it is thought that his inner conflict over his sexuality had a lot to do with his murders. Well I could go on forever but I'm sure you don't want to read my rants all night. I recently did a lot of research on serial killers for a screenplay I'm writing if you were wondering where my information comes from. A bit of research, even online like the tru.tv crime library can give you a nice hint of information as I'm a bit longwinded. Haha. Edit: I noticed this is in love relationships. I don't believe that serial killers have a whole lot to do with the love aspect unless they were already ready to snap in the first place, unstable, twisted, etc. Though love can send you over the edge. There was one serial killer that flew off the handle over a girl I think it was something Rodriguez. Okay I'll shut up now.
