I understand that small amounts of gold are everywhere. The trick is to find it in areas of high concentration that are easily accessible.

the best place to look for nuggets of gold is (with a metal detector) around old gold mining shafts where you will have to be very careful,dont go too close because the edge can cave in without warning. use a good detector they arent cheap $5800 in australia for the latest minilab 4500.do some research on the geological aspects of the area that you want to have a go at,obviously youll want to know if nuggets have been found in that area,go with someone who has had experience,then its 90% hard work & 10% luck.

All the Gold Nuggets that were to be found have already been found. Now all that is left is Gold Ore. Often the concentration of gold in the ore is so low that the cost of separating the gold from the ore is higher than the value of the gold extracted. Still there is nothing to stop you from going gold prospecting!
