  • From what I read, yes they do. Cheap food and I think too many people are too lazy to cook anything at home.
  • gag. Can't imagine. Once on a road trip with my Pit we were up neart Yuba city CA started snowing, need food, only McD's so pulled in got soda and FFs for me and a hamburger for my dog. He spit out the meat and ate the rest and REFUSED the meat..uh uh. Cruddy food there. And they don't carry Pepsi.
  • I know a couple of people on the bottom rung of the "lower class" scale that say that these days all they can really afford to do is buy 10 Mickey D's hamburgers (50 cents apiece) and live on those for a few days. They literally can't afford to buy food and cook it any more. If there are enough of those people along with the lazy people, I can see why their profits keep rising.
  • Given the economies of scale Micky-D's has, and how little they pay their employees, and the number of people who can't afford anything better anymore....I'm not too surprised. Prostitution, OTOH, does NOT seem to be recession-proof...;-D... . http://www.newsweek.com/id/141848
  • people do like it that much, i work there, and god@mn is it always busy
  • Nope. It's getting to be the only place you can afford to go out to often.
  • It's cheap.
  • People keep going to McD's because it is cheap. Also, since people have to tighten their belts (no pun intended) in other areas, they feel entitled to indulge themselves in a relatively cheap way by eating out there.
  • Because for two bucks you can buy a meal. That's cheap even by poor standards. For me, it's the fountain Diet Coke. I am not the only one to crave it. I swear they put something in it.
  • I don't know about it being cheap (which is what most keep saying) unless all you get is a crap'ass tiny hamburger. If you get anything close to a real meal cheese burger fries salad and a large shake $$ not so cheap...Now maybe you are thinking a Applebee's or some steak house for $40.00 a plate + extra for drinks, yeah then McDonald's looks cheap!
  • I can live on a double cheeseburger and be full for a buck.
  • Its the dollar menu man.
  • I only like their french fries. Lol.
  • Sadly they do and its cheap...rubbish food!!!!
  • Their food is cheap and dependable. Those who could afford to eat out at coffee shops when they had jobs and things were looking up,drop down to the fast-food level. They used to have a dollar menu..nothing cost more than a buck. So the kids are happy..folks are happy because the kids are happy. That's why McDonald's survives and flourishes..especially during tough times like these! Happy Wednesday, kdp! :) ((hugs)) I used to work for a couple who owned 7 McDonald's restaurants..worked for them for 12 years! They always made money..always. They push the drinks because it costs only a couple of pennies to make! :)
  • suspect it is one of the only cheap places to eat
  • Perhaps they can't afford actual food, and eat at McDonald's as an alternative.
  • I fell into that trap when I was single. Somehow putting down 5 or 6 dollars for a meal didn't seem as expensive as spending $60 for groceries. It wasn't till I started adding up the total for the week that I realized how much money I was wasting. We don't teach math very well in the schools anymore. We teach college prep math, to prepare kids for college chemistry and not everyday living math. We don't even teach the college prep very well. When I was teaching math, I taught base, percent and percentage by giving the kids the purchase price of my house, the term of my mortgage and the interest and having them figure out the total payoff. I did the same with my truck. I was talking to one of my former students the other day. She'd just bought a car. She said it was the first car she'd taken a loan on, and only because the price was so good that she could pay it off quickly. She'd learned from what I taught. That is what we need to start teaching kids.
  • If it is isn't the price, then it must be that some people have no taste.
  • They will reduce their staffing, and keep wage increases to a minimum while there scale ever increases. Peoples addiction to junk food will overrule sensible economic decisions (ie buy a bag of vegetables that will last three days with the same money)
  • Some convince themselves that it's cheaper to eat off the dollar menu than to make food at home. Other are now eating at McDonalds instead of eating at nicer restaurants.
  • A lot of people will spend their last 2 macbucks on a mac$h!teburger with cheese.
  • It's the thing with kids that does it ... jungle gyms, "Happy Meals," etc. I personally can't STAND the damned place! Sigh! : (
