When/if you play video games, are you a button masher, or do you actually know what you are doing?

I used to play a mean Mortal Kombat back in the day. But now I'm more of a button masher, unless it is DDR.

I have a biased hatred of button mashers. XD Not really, but I certainly know what I'm doing when I play a game. Or if I don't, I still don't mash the buttons. But when I first started playing games, for some reason, say I wanted to jump over a large chasm, while pressing the button, I used to veer the controller in the direction I was jumping. That went away quick though.
