Ten years ago, I would have said this is an insulting question to women and answered, "Of course, not!!!!". But in the last few years, I'm afraid I have to say the answer is now "Yes". The problem seems to be SUVs and new female drivers. SUVs give a sense of invincibility to their drivers that seems to multiply in female drivers. And the newer female drivers have an aggressiveness that their driving skill level doesn't come close to matching. With both of these, the problem seems to be that they drive more like men, perhaps more like men than men do. Men, unfortunately, haven't gotten better. The women have just gotten worse.

Not according to insurance companies, who have much lower rates for female drivers. Follow the money.

I don't think what's between your legs has much to do with how well you operate a vehicle.

    I don't know if they're better -- they're just more aggressive.

I hate to be the oddball here but in my area its yes, seems like there are more accidents with women drivers at fault and its just plain scary on the road at times, I have had my share of being on the road over the yrs, at one point I put over 1200 miles a week on a car so I saw alot, the women who was putting on her makeup, while drinking coffee and on the cell-phone and driving or the mobile office-laptop, cell-phone and eating food, mother and her kid in the back seat shes reaching back to give a bottle while driving.
not to say I haven't seen some men who are just as bad just seems like I see more women around here.
And since I'm a lady myself I hate to cut lady drivers but thats what I see, we just don't always pay attention as our life's are so busy I think, minds in 3-4 places....

If ability with spatial relationships were the only factor, then yes, the typical man would clearly be a better driver.

However, we know that spatial judgement does not encompass the entire task of driving.

Also, improvements in automotive technology have largely eliminated any superiority (as drivers) that men displayed in terms of physical strength and (usually) taller stature.

hell no lol. alot of my girl friends constantly tell me to do this or that to help my driving. my bf is scary to be with in a vehicle because he forgets what hes doing when hes in a conversation, ends up driving in the wrong direction or has to slam the brakes to the floor to avoid hitting someone or an animal. it drives me up the wall. i feel alot more comfortable with a girl behind the wheel.

Well, most of my male friends drive like maniacs and manage to not get into accidents by doing some crazy tokyo drift stuff to avoid the other car and/or muscling their way through.
