Mother Teresa's Institute in Calcutta. She worked and have left a legacy for us to follow to bring a human dignity to dying, to an orphan, to a widow, to the sick. I know my money will be well spent.

I don't know, I'm terribly paranoid about charities these days. More and more often I'm hearing stories of rampant misuse of funds in many of the larger organizations and I would seriously hate to be funding some bigwigs "corporate" trip to Maui or the pedicure for his AKC toy pooodle. If I had a million dollars to give to charity, I'd rather personally distribute it to places I know of and know exactly what the money is paying for. Preferably an animal rescue organization of some sort.
-
Medicines sans Frontiers. It doesn't seem to have any religious agenda, and if I'm not mistaken it receives funding from the United Nations - pretty trustworthy.
-
I would give half to the Scottish Rite hospital in Dallas Texas, because they operated on my niece when she was one year old and her parents had no money or insurance. The other half would go to my church, because 100% of the money goes to needy families, and I know that for sure because our church records and finances are open for all members to see.
-
Aids Foundation.
-
I would split it between St. Jude's Hospital and I would donate the other half to the local SPCA
-
I'm not sure which one it would be, but any charity that would use the majority of the money for the cause of the charity instead of the majority of the money for administration costs.
-
Any charity in a poor, hungry area that needed the money to live. Why? Because if our Earth's people aren't strong, how can we sustain ourselves as a whole?
-
I'm concerned about clean air and the environment, so I'd probably give it to the Sierra Club.
-
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Three women and Two men in my family have had Breast Cancer.
-
United Way. Your money goes farther because they spread it across the spectrum of health and human service needs within a community.
-
AIDS research...reasoning apparent.
-
The help yourself charity. Who doesn't want a million dollars?
-
the bill gates one. b/c its a good charity
-
I wouldn't give it to charity, I would want to give it to people in the hospitals who for some reason don't have the money to pay for the bills.
-
The Bam-gets-a-new-car fund. I know exactly what it will be used for and can trust the fund managers.
-
To the children abused by molesters
-
red cross
-
St Jude Hospital
-
St. Judes Childrens Hospital. Anything that would help ease a child's pain, and help a child to live a less distressful life.
-
I would start my own charity, and give to the cause that I cherish the most.I would know the money would be spent properly for I would be the chairman of the charity. Also others could contribute to make the charity grow .Everyone would volunteer so no wages are given to anyone. Therefore everything is given to the cause of the charity. It is the only way to be sure that the charity is truly charity.
-
I'd give it to my church foundation.
-
I would'nt give it to charity. It seems that no matter how much we give to these charity organisations we are seeing nothing done with the money given. I would much prefer to distribute it to the homeless in person. That way I would see for myself that the money I have given is at work
-
The Alzhiemers Society. My Mom died with it, my step Mom has it, my Mother inlaw has it and my aunt and a friend had it. I hate the damn disease.
-
The Salvation Army. There's one in almost every town/city. They help people in every situation ~ fires, hunger, homeless, cold, etc. And they're there every Christmas ringing bells in the cold for those without.
-
WORLD VISION!
-
Any charity, except the Bill-and-Melinda charity.
-
I would give it to the Boy Scouts of America. I would choose this organization because I consider them to be the best youth organization there is. They teach boys to be honorable, upstanding citizens and leaders. Making such a donation to this organization would be one more way for me to give back to this fine organization that helped me become the man I am and make up for some of the persecution the organization has had to endure from those that are trying to force it to abandon the principles that have made it so great. *********************** "debsmooth: The gay-bashing LDS Army? I don't think so." You know, all of the other organizations that support the Boy Scouts and sponsor troops would be very surprised to find out that they are part of an "LDS army". I especially think that the Catholics (who have more boys in the program) would find this accusation really amusing. As for the accusation of "gay-bashing". Who is bashing whom here. Last time I checked the Boy Scouts weren't trying to force homosexuals to do anything. As far as I know, the Boy Scouts have never filed a lawsuit against any homosexual organization. It is the homosexuals that have been trying to force the Boy Scouts to change. It has always been the gay rights groups that have tried to violate the Boy Scouts right to associate. It has been the various gay rights groups that have been waging a legal battle to force the Boy Scouts off of public property and to deprive it of funding. So, who has been attacking whom? You have it backwards. This is on of the things that really gets on my nerves. The Boy Scouts have been very open about the kind of standards they expect of their members. They teach their members to respect those that have different standards, but they expect their members to follow the standards set out by their organization. However, rather than showing the same respect, those with different standards have to try to force the Boy Scouts to conform to them. Rather than respecting the right of the Boy Scouts to follow their own conscience, you want force your beliefs off onto them. It is about the same thing as a Jew walking into a Christian church and saying that he wants to be a member of that church, but don't expect him to accept Jesus as the Son of God. He wants to be part of that church, but don't expect him to accept the basic tenants of that religion. If you don't want to accept the principles upon which the Boy Scouts are founded, then don't join them. Start your own organizations that will promote the principles in which you believe. Respect the right of the Boy Scouts to believe as we wish and we will respect your right to believe as you wish.
-
The United Way, because they cover many different charities, all into one.
-
Doctors Without Borders Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, or exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries. http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org

well if i only had a million dollars then i would keep less than half of it (maybe 2 million) and i would give the rest to a charity most likely to stop/prevent cancer...
-
Gladly, would I donate to Children International. My best friend works at their call center. For more information about the charity, you may visit http://www.children.org.
-
The Salvation Army. Back in 1968, there were terrible riots in nashville. working 18-20 hours a day. out of all the charities in town and the nation, only one came to our rescue with bologna sandwiches, hot coffee and of course....doughnuts. I have never forgotten this and donate a sizeable amount of money each year to the salvation army. i see the good they accomplish with the homeless people. this is one charity you can actually see where your donations are working.

The ACLU, because I want my country back. The Republicans in Congress and George Bush in the White House have done horrific things to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution itself, damaging religious freedom, the separation of powers, Congress' exclusive ability to declare war, privacy rights, reproductive rights, equal rights under the law, and so on. I'd be here all night if I listed everything. The American Civil Liberties Unions at http://www.aclu.org is the organization I believe is able to do the most to force the government to adhere to the Constitution, and to get back the rights that have been attacked. They would put a million dollars to good use.
-
I would start a scholarship fund for biology and chemistry students on the post-grad level.
-
I would give the money to the RIGHT TO PLAY foundation. It is sad to say but there is no clean way to abolish all suffering but to give a child the chance to forget temporarily or smile for a while during their life is a greater gift than curing an illness! Our world is over run with plagues but to spread happiness is one of the greatest gifts. If you give a poor person bread today they are hungry again tomorrow. I really don't mean to sound so tough. I just don't know how to word it.
-
A percentage to any positive cause against the abuse of women & children. A percentage to any positive cause dedicated to saving the environment and/or endangered species ... without a livable planet the rest would be history.

There are many great charities, some of which are mentioned here, such as Medicins Sans Frontieres. The main point is to choose a good one and support it to the best of your ability. I contribute to my church (which does great work locally and internationally), and support orphanages in Bali. As well, I give one offs to other good causes, In Australia, there is a site called Tribes and Nations, run by two former missionaries, which is attempting to help people in Africa and Asia by giving them an outlet and a fair price for their products. There is also Opportunity International, which funds 1 million small businesses a year in poor nations, through microloans. They were the first to do this, and are still the best. They also have outlets for products from these countries. International Friends of Compassion, located in Indonesia, are also a magnificent organisation, having worked in the Maluku Islands and North Sulawesi following the jihad that went through in the 90s and in Aceh after the tsunami (they were first on the ground), as well as in Central Java. Care International, World Vision, Medicins Sans Frontieres, TEAR Fund are all tried and true, well-run organisations making a difference. I said at the start, to choose one charity, but, it is good to choose two charities to support, one international and one local. With regards to the animal charities: it would be wise to support one human and one animal. Without improving the lot of poor humans, wildlife will be affected adversely. And resist the guilt factor whenever someone rings or stops you. WHen you have determined that you are seriously supporting all that you can, you can firmly and with a smile say "I appreciate what you are doing, but I am already supporting X and Y, and have allocated funds to them. I do hope and pray that you can find others who are as yet uncommitted, to support you." My motto: I cannot change the world, but I can make a difference in a small part of it. cheers

I don't know a specific charity, but it would be one to fight AIDS. as far as i can tell, that's a threat that is completely out of control and has taken way too many lives to be ignored any longer.
-
The Children's Wish Foundation is what I would choose. I chose this charity because it fulfills the last wish of the child. It makes them happy and they can forget their illness for a time and enjoy themselves.
-
The Canadian breast cancer society, because my mother had cancer about 5 years ago and has beat it.
-
I wouldnt give it to a charity..because you dont know exactly what is being done with the money you give. I would give it to the homeless, poor and people that need treatment but cant afford it.
-
G'day Red b ball, Thank you for your question. The Muscular Dystrophy Association as I have two young nephews with the disease. While scientists are making progress, a lot more work needs to be done before there is a cure. Regards
-
poor white fondaton all money collect goes to me
-
st judes
-
I would personally deliver to people who need it to make sure it doesn't get picked at by administration fees or to pay the rent of nice granite headquarter buildings for any of the groups.
-
I'd give it to micro-enterprise development groups - they work inside slum and very poor areas to give potential entrepreneurs the training and loans they need to start, develop and grow their own businesses. Money loaned is returned at a commercial rate of interest so the fund grows and continues in perpetuity. It gives the poor the power to change their own lives - rather than have aid dumped on them from above...
-
I would put it were it was needed the most, by those who were without home, food,& health ins: From M.C.S.
-
The RSPCA (Royal Society for Protection againce Cruelty to Animals)
-
Texas children's hospital. :) Because they take care of kiddos, and kids are my business. Those kids have all types of things wrong with them, and all the doctors specialize in kids.
-
The local animal shelter.
-

I would give $100,000 to my church, $250,000 to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, $150,000 to the American Red Cross, $400,000 to a Darfur charity, and $100,000 to Doctors Without Borders.
-
