Yes, over here it used to be a dozedn bread rolls or even a bakers dozen(13). Now in some packaging there are only 10. but it is more expensive.
-
Yes. We bought a box of Yodels 2 weeks ago. They used to fill up the plastic wrapper they came in (2 to a pack) Now the plastic is the same size, and these 2 little, pathetic 1/2" diameter Yodels roll lazily to the bottom of the wrapper, leaving 3 inches of space in the bag, which has been craftily filled with air to keep them from flopping around in the box, betraying their inferiority;)

Ice cream used to be a half gallon, now if you look closely you are getting less than a half gallon for the same price.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/23/earlyshow/contributors/susankoeppen/main4540627.shtml . Consumers are to blame. They don't switch brands when one downsizes. Sometimes when a brand downsizes I will buy an excessive amount of another brand and mail the brand that downsized the receipt showing the business that they lost. I also buy from Sam's club where containers are often larger.
-
Sugar, used to be 5 lbs, now they are 4lbs.
-
Ice cream we buy used to be 2 quarts in a package. Now it's 1.75 quarts. Same price.
-
Most breakfast cereals are in the same size box, but the contents have been reduced.
-
Yep. My creatine mix comes in the same size container with less product in it. S.O.B.'s! Same price, of course.
-
Most canned vegetables used to be in 16 oz. cans, now it's anywhere between 10 - 16 ozs.! What's worse ... if you open a can of "whole kernel" corn now, you will see about 2/3's of a can of corn, the rest water! Pitiful!
-
Folgers went from 32 oz. to 27 oz. cans recently.
-
suckers.. I used to buy them and they were bigger than they are now. I buy about a bag a month now and every month the sucker part gets smaller and the stick gets longer but the price stays the same or goes up.
-
Almost all the products the company I worked for has downsized their packaging this year. I read an article in September about this. Everything from ice cream to laundry detergent.
-
mayonaise for one. Used to be 32 oz. now it's 32 oz and the price has gone up. Also Tuna used to be 7+ oz. now it's 6.
-
Lol Rosie, with the price of Gas, you watch the cars shrink :o)
-
The store brand yogurt I like went form an 8 oz container to 6 oz. and the price went up 10 cents. Also the rubbing alcohol I buy went from a 16 oz bottle for 50 cents to a 12 oz bottle for 75 cents.
-
Yes that has happened to me. There are people who don't notice these tricks that the manufacturers try. The cost of things are going up so I try to buy things in bulk at Costco. Pasta is cheaper there and it lasts a long time.
-
Cadbury's creme eggs have been shrinking every single year - they used to be the same size as a normal egg. And the price is going up! :-(
-
I used to buy cat food in a 20 pound bag. They recently switched several brands to anywhere between 16 - 17 pounds -- for more money!
-
I used to be able to get two full bowls from a can of Progresso soup. Now it's about a bowl and a half, which is an annoying and wasteful amount. And the price is higher.
-
Yes. Clothes stores that were known for their pure cotton, high quality clothes are now selling synthetic clothes for the same price.
-
I have seen this happening for years. I learned to price by the ounce a long time ago. It was the best lesson I ever learned. Keep you eyes out for smaller Kleenx and bathroom tissues, adhesive tape, potato chips, and just about everything.
-
My school cafeteria sells meat pieces. They shrink by the month. To think they'd be a bit more consideratte as we are only students. Now the 'meat' we're getting is just bones with a thin layer of meat!
-
Mmm a while ago, a beer I liked suddenly became smaller. A whole lot of people noticed and complained, and the company said they had conducted a study where they discovered that consumers wanted a smaller beer... Sounds logical, no?
-
Yes, I have a very similar story: Years ago I used to be able to make good money in my restaurant. Now minimum wage has gone up almost fifty percent, gas is double, every item I sell is up 40-100% my cost, and rents and utilities are way up. And people bitch and moan if I raise prices, add a fee for deliver, or do any other thing that keeps me putting food on the table for my children. I employ fifteen people, I'm sure they and their families would be pretty upset if I just shut down business as well. How about if you don't think the product is worth the amount of money you're paying, you don't buy it. Everyone is trying to eat here. It's proven marketing that people will more easily accept a smaller portion than a higher price, which every answer here seems to uphold as you're still buying these things. They did the best thing for them and their employees, just like every one of us.

oops,no one has raised the point for perfumes :)) All the sizes of every new product are going down.Even Lancome has changed the sizes of old products from 3.4oz to 2.5oz .Armani has all new products in 2.5oz instead of 3.4oz at same kind of products.Same with the Boss. We consumers are to blame. We don't switch brands when one downsizes.
-
With everything, Rosie!!! My grocery bill has almost doubled and I am getting far less than I used to.
-
One that I find maddening is the shrinking supermarket cart! Whole foods has these tiny tiny carts, so that when you fill up your cart it's the same price as a supermarket, but you only get 1/3 as much food.
-
packets of crisps when you open a packet its only a quater full about 20 crisps. ('potato chips') inside and every year it gows up a few pence (im in the UK) and you get less and less crisps. i havent eaten crisps for a few years but all my friends complain about them
-
Kind of like the Double Cheeseburgers at Mcdonalds. Slowly but surely getting smaller, as they raise the price .20.
-
They've done the same thing with every product. They don't want to make it obvious that they're raising prices so they cut back on the size instead. It's one more way of sticking it to the working folks...and we continue to let them

The last yard of ale I drank was only 33"

I know I answered this last year, Rosebud, but I recently noticed another that just puts a burr under my saddle ... peanut butter. It used to be an 18 oz. jar for around $1.89 (regular price). Now, it's a "16" oz. jar ... for the same price! They do these things thinking no one will notice (and most times, they are correct). I only noticed because a sale paper said Peter Pan Peanut Butter - 2/$3 (16 oz. jars). I knew that they had always been 18 oz., so I went to the pantry to check and, sure enuff ... they were now "16" oz. jars! They get ya any way they can! P.S. Happy Sunday, my friend ... and a big ol' {{{HUG}}} your direction!

Cereal boxes look the same size from the front, but if you turn them to the side, they are skinnier.
