According to the recent flood of spam in my inbox, Sildenafil Citrate is the generic term for the active ingredient in Viagra. So, SC is essentially Viagra. As for what it does... it is intended to help men, like Bob Dole in his (in)famous Viagra commercials, cope with "Erectile Dysfunction."
Yes, it helps with erectile dysfunction. It is a vasodilator, sending more blood to the penis and thus engorging the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum. It should only be used with perscription and can be deadly if mixed with other drugs (such as nitroglycerin, another vasodilator)
Sildenafil Citrate affects the response to sexual stimulation. It acts by enhancing smooth muscle relaxation using nitric oxide, a chemical that is normally released in response to sexual stimulation. This smooth muscle relaxation allows increased blood flow into certain areas of the penis, which leads to an erection.
Sildenafil Citrate is applied for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Sildenafil Citrate may also be used for other purposes not listed above.
