I got braces the day before my thirteenth birthday. I was made fun of all day at school, and I couldn't eat anything. It was a really bad birthday. My thirteenth year? Oh lord, I'm so glad I'm fourteen.

I remember...I was so mad. My mom promised my neighbor's that their son could sleep over. He was 13 too and because we were now 13 I couldn't have my best friend sleep over. Even tho he was sleeping in my brothers room and she'd be sleeping in my room, now that I was 13 a girl and boy couldn't sleep over on the same night. It was my birthday, my friend should have slept over! I never thought of him as a friend after that.

All I remember was that I wore glasses, had a bowl hair cut and everyone thought I was gay. I think I repressed everything else.
