Try these: Abtruse - Not easy to understand Amity - Friendship Anathema - Detested person or thing Asinine - Stupid, idiotic Assiduous - Hard working/Done with care Auriferous - Containing gold Just go through the dictionary page by page and you'll be amazed at how many words you've never heard of. Reader's Digest used to (and I guess probably still does) have a section called "It Pays to Increase Your Word Power" which was designed to increase your vocabulary. I took a quick visit to their website, and apparently they now have an online version that you can play for free, although it does require registration. http://www.rd.com/realarcade/openRealArcade.do In addition to what has already been mentioned, try Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/mwwod.pl Maybe set it as your home page, and everyday you will be greeted with a new word to learn and build your vocabulary.
