How do you know that it would not appear that way if released directly into the air as the breath is? If you have tried it, well, then you are right to ask and I admit that I have no idea and never wondered about it.

I've wondered this before! But unfortunately I have not been pantsless outside in the cold whilst I needed to fart in a long time (if ever.) But I'm pretty sure it would create the same affect as breath, but pants get in the way.

No... a fart is mostly methane, which has a freezing point of something around minus 180 degrees C (not exact, but close enough for now), which means that no day you have ever experienced is cold enough to freeze it. Your breath however has some water content to it, and it is this that will start to freeze when your breath hits freezing cold air, creating the mist that allows you to 'see your breath'.

    Ahh the things you ponder...

I have no idea, but go ahead and try it, I have a feeling it's possible.

Did this answer your question? If not, then ask a new question or create a poll.

You're reading If you can see your breath when it's cold outside, is it possible to see a "fart" on a cold day too? - which can also be phrased in the following ways:

I dont care how you answer but, if you fart in the cold...can you see it as you would see your breath?
Did you ever wonder why flatulence doesn't appear as a white puff (or puffs as the case may be) in cold weather, like your breath does?
